Nutrition therapy

The aim of nutrition therapy is to maintain or restore a good nutritional- and muscular status. Depending on the underlying treatment goals or disease, completely individual nutritional concepts are necessary. It is therefore necessary to carry out a differentiated analysis of nutrition (qualitative and quantitative), nutritional and muscle status and, if necessary, to measure daily the energy requirements and physical activity.

Nutrition therapy can be carried out by adapting the normal diet or, in the case of a given medical indication, as an artificial diet in the form of oral balanced diets (as liquid nutrition, soups, shakes, puddings), enteral tube feeding (nutritional solutions that are applied via a gastric- or small intestine tube) or parenteral nutrition (nutrition via the vein). Certain diseases lead to a changed need for certain nutrients, so that special diets or special formulations of artificial nutrition are required (high/low in protein, high/low in fibre, oligopeptide food, etc.).

Moreover, the nutrition therapy should be combined with a sports or exercise therapy adapted to the patient's disease, therapy and condition. This reduces and balances the loss of the skeletal muscles and promotes the muscle growth. Here, the treatment tolerability is supported which has a positive influence on the course of the disease and the prognosis.

In order to guarantee an optimal nutritional advice and therapy in our Hector-Centre, qualified specialists are available in the form of nutritional physicians, nutritional scientists, dieticians and specialists for clinical nutrition.
