Obesity

The prevalence of obesity has been increasing rapidly worldwide within the last decades. According to actual estimates, about 50 % of the German population suffer from overweight and 25 % are obese. Especially severe overweight, called obesity and defined by a body mass index (BMI) above 30 kg/m2, goes along with a limited quality of life and a high risk for comorbidities. If further risk factors are added to obesity, as e.g. hypertension, diabetes or raised blood fats, the disease is called metabolic syndrome. The combinations of these risk factors lead to a dangerous potentiation of the risk to develop cardiovascular diseases or certain oncological diseases.

Interdisciplinary nutrition and sports concepts lead to better quality of life

When treating this widespread disease, the primary goal is to improve the cardiometabolic risk profile. Besides reducing the body fat, increasing the performance of the cardiac cycle and maintaining or building up muscular mass are our foci to reach that goal. Therefore, our research focuses on reducing rapidly and efficiently the patients’ weight by accomplishing an effective nutrition and sports concept and on improving the risk factors, thus positively influencing the patients’ prognosis.

We can only reach this goal as the medical, nutritional and sports team works very closely together – as it is ideally given in the Hector-Center. Each person suffering from obesity will be treated with an individually drafted nutrition- and sports concepts, based on the latest clinical and experimental studies.

Results from our studies have proven that our treatment concept

• Reduces significantly the fat mass
• Increases the physical performance
• Strengthens the cardiovascular system
• Improves the cardiometabolic risk profile (blood pressure lowering, optimizes the blood sugar metabolism, normalizes the blood fat)
• Increases the life quality.
