Research

At the Hector-Center for Nutrition, Exercise, and Sports, four working groups engage themselves in the scientific basics of our clinical activities.

The working group “Nutritional Science” examines and develops innovative concepts for nutritional therapy. Special focus is on the stabilization resp. improvement of the body composition, especially of the muscle mass. We aim at influencing positively the disease course and the recovery process.

The working group “Sports Science and Performance Physiology” aims at developing new concepts in sports therapy for chronically ill patients and at evaluating the effects of those concepts on the cardiovascular system and the muscle mass. We especially focus on examining the positive effects of individual sports concepts on the life quality of ill people and on the recovery process.

Gastrointestinal basic research, food intolerances, and microbiota

The working group “Gastrointestinal Basic Research” examines the basic causes for food intolerances and food allergies with special focus on celiac disease and gluten intolerance. We aim at developing an individual, patient oriented diagnostic and therapy. In addition, we examine the influence of gut bacteria (microbiota) on health and various diseases.

Basic research muscular metabolism

The working group “Cachexia” focuses on the anabolic and catabolic processes within the muscle mass of oncological patients in order to examine the influence of therapeutic interventions in the fields of nutrition and sports on the muscular metabolism of chronically ill people.

All working groups are supported - among others - by skilled technical assistants.
